Food on the Table, a South Australian charity, has been helping the homeless and disadvantage community for the last four years. Through initiatives such as Soup & Sleep, they are able to provide meals, as well as offer essential support, resources, and tools to assist vulnerable individuals.
This year, A&D’s Managing Director Kevin Johnson volunteered for their annual Soup & Sleep event and raised awareness and significant donations that contributed to the final amount raised $395,696.00
At the event, the volunteers helped to cook up and feed those in need (with the help of iconic local chefs), and most importantly heard from some people sharing their own stories about just how hard life can be for many in the community, who might not be as fortunate.
That evening, all volunteers also had a brief experience of doing it tough, sleeping on a piece of cardboard under the stars.
Every night in South Australia, it is estimated there are some 7000 people experiencing homelessness and alarmingly around 15% are under the age of 12. With the huge increase in the cost of living, many more individuals and families are regularly experiencing food insecurity, which is of course heightened amongst people experiencing homelessness.
All fundraising efforts go directly towards feeding those who are doing it tough right now. https://www.foodonthetable.org.au
